Q&A with Sophomore PAC-10 Champ Golfer Bennett Detweiler
Editor Kevin Haslam speaks with sophomore Bennett Detweiler about golf, his PAC-10 championship and the future in this week's Q&A.

After of the PIAA District One Tournament, we caught up with boys golf's head coach Jeff Mast to discuss his three players. Mast gave much praise to his three competitors: , John Foley and Bennett Detweiler, each having unique qualities to be "class act individuals" both on the course and off.
However, most compelling was Mast's praise for Detweiler, who he singled out as the prime example he uses for the rest of his team. Only a sophomore, Detweiler won the this year, along with on the girls side. Although Detweiler didn't make it to of districts, his hopes were high for his next two years.
Detweiler took some time to sit down with Limerick-Royersford-Spring City Patch to discuss his golf career and life in general in this week’s Q&A.

LRSC Patch: Can you tell us how you got started with the game of golf, when you realized you liked the game and were good at it?
Bennett Detweiler: I started playing with my grandpa and uncle. I think I was eight. When I was 12, I joined the junior PGA tour. That's where it all started.

Patch: Do you play any other sports for Spring-Ford?
Detweiler: I play basketball.
Patch: What are the differences for you? Golf is such an individualized game and then you go out and there's five people on the court you've got to mesh with.
Detweiler: I like golf more, because it's whatever it is. You can't have coaches saying anything. You just go in and play and whatever your score is, you get.
Patch: Can you talk about the PAC-10 Individual Championship you won, as well as your progression overall this season?
Detweiler: Yeah, that was cool. I started out playing at the beginning of the season pretty good. Then, I went downhill a little bit and picked it back up. I played really well that day.
Patch: Can you compare this year to your freshman year?
Detweiler: I think I've gotten a little bit better over the year and definitely gained more confidence. I feel like I belong out here.
Patch: If you could go back to last year and tell yourself what to do to improve your game this year, what would it be?
Detweiler: I'd say every round is a new round. You have to take each shot as a new shot and each day as a new day.
Patch: Can you talk about districts, how you felt coming in compared to how you played?
Detweiler: I felt pretty good coming in, but a few shots here and there kept me out of it.
Patch: You've got two more solid years ahead of you. Can you talk about your future with the team?
Detweiler: Yeah, it's exciting. Two more years at this. I'd like to advance more next year. My goal this year was to get to districts. I got here. Next year, I want to get to regionals and then states senior year.
Patch: Do you see yourself as becoming a leader or captain on this team in the future, for as well as you played the first two years?
Detweiler: Yeah, I'd like to be one. I've had a few good captains on my team that helped me a lot and I hope I can do that for some other people.
Patch: Last one. If you could play in any foursome you want, who would it be?
Detweiler: Tiger [Woods], Rory McIlroy and my grandfather.
