Ram Marching Band Charges Forward in Exeter

A recap of last weekend's events and a preview for Homecoming.

The following was sent in by George Growcott of the Spring-Ford High School marching band:

On Oct. 15 at Exeter High School the Marching Rams again walked away with Top Honors in the 2011 Tournament of the Bands. This weekend, the band received a total score of 92 out of 100, which at the end of all Tournament of Band shows held this weekend is the highest score received by any band at a Tournament of Band event. Events were held in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland and West Virginia.

The band outscored Wilson High School from West Lawn, who place second in its division with a score of 86.95. Spring-Ford also received special awards for High Percussion and High Color Guard at the show!

The band added some new parts to the show to help show off its skills along with help to explain this year’s production “Art of War” more completely. This week, we will see some more adjustments and work to clarify the show as the band gets ready for what’s a very and important time of the marching band season.

This Friday night, the band will be playing at the 2011 bonfire. Saturday finds the members of the band marching in the Homecoming Parade at 11 a.m., followed by the Homecoming football game versus Owen J. Roberts. They will be presenting this year’s production while rooting on the team.

We will also be looking forward to seeing hopefully some to the proud graduates of the Spring-Ford band on Sunday at 3 p.m. The SF Music Boosters will be the host this year of the Tournament of Bands, Chapter Three Championships (Southeastern Pennsylvania) at Coach McNelly Stadium right here in Royersford.  The Spring-Ford Marching Rams, under the direction of John Eckstine, have won this championship the last five years in a row and are gunning to make it six.

The band will face Pennsbury High School from Bucks County along with Avon Grove High School from Chester County. Also on Sunday, the Marching Band, under the direction of Kris Jennings, will be performing their 2011 show and along with the high school band love to see everyone to come out to support them to see what they have been working very hard on since August.
