Rams wrestlers top Perk Valley to stay unbeaten in PAC-10

Spring Ford 45, Perkiomen Valley 15

What started for Spring-Ford as a nail-biter of a match with rival Perkiomen Valley quickly turned into a rout as the Rams' lightweights, led by Adam and Jason Dombrosky, carried the home squad to a 45-15 PAC-10 Liberty division win.

For Spring-Ford sophomore Ben Schein, Wednesday was just like any other meet day. Nothing special, grab your gear, head to the gym, set up the mats, and get ready for the meet. What Schein hadn’t counted on was making his varsity debut against 112-pound Derrick Buckley.

“I was pretty nervous at first," said Schein. “Once we got started I was just wrestling by instinct. My wing series was working well for me and I was able to work on top a lot, so I felt really good.”

In his first varsity match of the season, the youngster put on a clinic and was so effective he earned a technical fall with a 17-2 drubbing of Buckley, collecting five team points and giving the Rams a 30-15 edge at the time.

“Ben [Schein] really performed well, “ said head coach Tim Seislove, who is in his 12th year of coaching the squad. “I wanted to move some guys around tonight and see what they could do. We have some kids that really want a spot in the lineup.“

Spring-Ford needed the lift provided by the 103 – 130 pound classes, as the Vikings had gotten to within one point after 215–pound freshman Luke DiElsi scored a reversal in triple overtime against he Rams' Andrew Long, winning the match 4-2.

“I was exhausted after that,” said DiElsi. “I don’t usually go that long into a match. He was extremely strong in his upper body and it was really tough to keep him down. I just wanted the win so bad I knew I had to score there somehow.”

Perkiomen Valley’s Bobby Strickland battled Rams “go-to guy” Matt Krueger to a scoreless deadlock for two periods before Kreuger finally was able to score on an escape to claim a 1-0 win.

Spring-Ford heavyweight Tyler Borelli used a reversal and escape to shut out Perk Valley’s David Robinson in the 285-pound clash.

“I was very happy with the way we responded tonight,” added Seislove, a former Spring-Ford and Ursinus College wrestler. “We got a really nice win at 160-pound. Our goal was to get the right match ups for us. We have some young kids that work hard and are stuck behind some seniors. It was nice to see them take advantage of their opportunity.”

The Rams improved to 13-2 overall and 4-0 in league play while scoring three pin falls and winning 10-of-14 matches. Meanwhile, Perkiomen Valley’s dropped to 1-4 in league play, 7-4 overall as Gavin Milligan recorded the Vikings' only pin fall as he touched Bryan Stackwit’s shoulder to the mat just 1:22 into the first period.

“It’s been a rough couple of days,” said Vikings head coach Tim Walsh. “I really felt like we could accomplish more here tonight, but they got some really strong efforts from some of their kids. I thought Chris (Kline) and Vaugh (Gehman) did a great job.”
