Red Sox Fighting To Remain in Playoffs
Region Three tournament resumes today. Winner advances to the state tournament.
BUCKTOWN - When Spring City takes the field on Monday at 12:30, it will do so in a position it became comfortable with last season: on its way to the first state championship in team history, with its back against the wall. The game will take place at Owen J. Roberts High School.
The Red Sox, who pounded out 20 hits in a 16-6 rout of Greater Norristown league champion Whitpain in the opening round, continued on the offensive, posting 12 runs in Sunday’s winners' bracket semifinal.
After taking a 5-3 lead on a three-run triple by Pat Medley, Spring City had no answer for the heavy metal thrown at it by Bristol Post 382, allowing eight runs in the third from. The Sox never recovered.

The Sox, led by two doubles by Connor Simmons, who also scored two runs, scratched out three consecutive two-run innings but could not regain control of the tilt.
With the loss, Spring City Post 602 will square off with Philadelphia champion Olney, who defeated Main Line champion Narberth 12-6 to advance to third round action. Narberth was eliminated in the game.

The Sox will be in an all out attack mode as they face the Redbirds with a berth in Tuesday's semifinal and a chance to defend their state title hanging in the balance.
"We’ll be alright tomorrow," said Red Sox pitching coach Mike Walton. "We have a couple of guys for Monday and we have been there before. Pat Medley threw a bullpen today, which is encouraging. If we can take care of business here, we may be in even better shape at the next level."
"It was important to only use Sean for five innings," said Red Sox manager Jamie Scheck after Saturday’s opening round win. "It’s all about pitching at this level, so any innings we can save is beneficial. I was happy with the way we attacked the ball today."
