Spring-Ford student commits suicide

Parents were notified of the death via e-mail on Tuesday afternoon.

A 7th grade student at Spring-Ford intermediate school committed suicide Sunday, Patch has learned. Parents of students at the school were notified of the student's death via an e-mail (see PDF) on Monday afternoon. The student was a resident of East Vincent Township.

Due to the victim's age, Patch is withholding information on the victim's identity and other circumstances surrounding his death.

The school district issued the following statement in response to media inquiries:

The Spring-Ford Area School District community was saddened this weekend by the sudden death of a seventh-grade student. Due to privacy concerns the district cannot share information about the nature of this student's death or the child's name.

In accordance with the district's crisis plan, parents and staff were notified Tuesday, May 31, about the student's death. School guidance and crisis counselors were made available to talk with any children who may have been affected by this student's passing.

The Spring-Ford Area School District would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the child during this difficult time.
