Royersford Borough Council Meeting Packed with Borough Residents

Tuesday night, Royersford Borough Council held the first of the two monthly meetings, focusing on a Public Zoning Hearing for the 900 block of Main Street.

The Royersford Borough Council met at on Tuesday night. The council discussed the effects of recent tropical storms on residents and businesses, as well as held a public zoning hearing for the 900 block of Main Street.

Mayor David Urner attended the recent First Annual Royersford Community Day and expressed how amazing of a turnout the event saw with 2,500-3,000 people. He said he hopes this can become an annual event for the community. 

Borough Manager, Michael Leonard discussed the bids for council approval of asbestos in Borough Hall. He also read a letter from Royersford Veterinary Hospital inviting everyone in the community to an open house on Oct. 22.

Royersford Public Works reported using 1,600 gallons of water to water the plants along Main Street for the month of August, as well as the installation of five new swings at . A railing at the park that was recently hit by a Royersford Police Car was replaced. 

The Public Safety report submitted by Royersford Police Department's Chief Kevin Schurr noted the police responding to a total of 262 incidents for the month of August, which included 12 arrests, one DUI and 18 response assists to other municipalities. Chief Schurr also made note in his report that he attended a September 11 ceremony on Sunday at the Valley Forge Church and received a $250 donation for the Royersford Police Department. The fire department was granted approval to attend the upcoming Upper Providence Community Day on Oct. 17.

Due to the severity of the recent tropical storms and hurricanes, Royersford Emergency Management was activated from Sept. 6-9 according to the public safety report. Residents and businesses along the river, including , were forced to evacuate parked cars, due to the river flooding caused by storms.

The Royersford Wastewater Facility experienced damage as a direct result of the storms and is still pending a final financial assessment for how much repairs will cost. Upon completion of damage assessment, the damage report will be submitted to FEMA for reimbursement.

Grace Luthern Church on Main Street was granted approval to close 6th Avenue between Church and Main Street on Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
