Royersford Lions Club honors Spring-Ford school nurses

The nurses helped collect 237 pairs of glasses for Low Vision Awareness Month.

Nurses who organized eyeglass collections at Spring-Ford's 5th and 6th Grade Center and the 7th Grade Center were recognized for their efforts by the Royersford Lions Club on Feb. 9.

Nurses Jacquelyn Raco, RN, CSN, from the 5th and 6th Grade Center and Sandra Frost-Horvath, RN, from the 7th Grade Center encouraged staff and students to donate glasses and glass cases in recognition of Low Vision Awareness Month. The schools collected 237 pairs of glasses and 80 glass cases to support this worthy cause.

Royersford Lions Club members Donald "Dink" Sheetz and his wife, Judy, presented the award to the nurses. Also present was Spring-Ford student Lianna Rockhill, whose father Lee is President of the Royersford Lions Club. Mr. Rockhill also has a visually impaired son who was adopted from the Ukraine and has benefited from Lions Club programs.

Lions Club International is the world's largest service club organization and provides vision services to children adults and seniors worldwide. Founded in 1917, the organization is best known for fighting blindness through conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and raising awareness of eye disease.

Royersford Lions Club welcomes new members - meetings are held at Giovanni's Restaurant in Royersford at 6:30 p.m. on the first and third Wednesdays of the month.
