Royersford municipal meeting roundup

Revitalization project gets grant funds; parade a success; Eagle Scout to be recognized

The Royersford Borough Council had the second of its two May meetings on Tuesday evening. The agenda mostly comprised routine business. The following matters of interest were discussed:

  • The borough has received two grants to help with the Royersford Revitalization Project.  A $20,000 National Heritage Grant will be used in conjunction with borough funds to install a crosswalk on Main Street.  A County Development Block Grant will be used to pay for street curbs and handicapped access on Chestnut Street between 7th Avenue and Lewis Road.
  • The Borough Planning Commission will hold its meeting on Monday, June 6th at 7pm.
  • The council approved an amendment to the borough code that will charge ten percent interest on delinquent accounts in collections with the waste water committee.  The borough solicitor said this was consistent with prior practice.
  • The waste water committee reported that the pumping station has been operating without any problems and that sludge is being dispensed into the Pottstown water treatment plant.
  • The was granted permission to have the road closed on August 2, 2011 from 3pm to 8pm for their annual National Night Out event. The road will be blockaded between 4th and 3rd Ave on Washington Street.
  • Mayor David Urner said he was "overwhelmed" by the support of the community at the annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday, and that it had its largest turnout to date.  He commended the community for its support and participation. 
  • Urner said that Eagle Scout Kyle Thorpe has completed his revitalization of the World War I Memorial at for his Eagle Scout project. Urner said he plans to organize a ceremony honoring Kyle for his community service and dedication to the project.
  • Junior Council Member Austin Galaska was recognized for his participation and attendance on the Borough Council, as it was his last meeting.  He thanked the council for providing him with an education on small government and helping him learn how to keep "Royersford a well oiled machine." The council presented him with a plaque honoring his service.
  • Hannelore Bealer, owner of the , thanked the borough and the police department for their help with enforcing borough ordinances, which she said keep the hotel and the borough clean and safe.

The meeting adjourned into an executive session to discuss a "private legal matter." The council meets next on Tuesday, June 14th at 7:15pm.
