Schools Administer June Status Updates

Elementary schools in the Spring-Ford Area School District are letting us know the good news at the end of the year. Check out the notes here.

Memos went out from Evans, Limerick, Oaks, Royersford and Spring City Elementary Schools concerning various statistics, activities and status updates.

The June Board report was given out at the final school board meeting. If you haven't seen them, here are some highlights.

Enrollment is at 597 as of June 1. There was a field/activity day on June 3, which had about 20 stations for students and staff to interact with. The memo thanked Jody Polsz for planning it.

The fourth grade students planned a pool party at the Spring City Pool and a pizza party for the whole class.

Finally, the last assembly of the year was held on June 14 to say goodbye to students and staff. A slideshow was shown to everyone to highlight the year.

Enrollment is at 396 students according to the June 20 report. A pro-social assembly was held for the school where third graders presented a video based on the FISH Philosophy concept of "Choose Your Attitude." Third graders also sang Will.I.am's "What I am" at the conclusion of the assembly.

Kindergarten Orientation was held on May 20 for parents and children entering kindergarten on the 2011-2012 school year. Open House will be held on Aug. 24 at 6:30 p.m.

Limerick Elementary held its field day on May 27. Teamwork, pro-social attitudes and celebrations occurred on the day. Four different activities were available for student participation throughout the day.

The fourth grade students put on a spring concert by performing "I Need a Vacation."

June 6 was a day of good eats and awards at the Limerick Golf Club compliments of the Limerick Home and School League. The luncheon was a venue for honoring a few good students including Kayla Lowe and Ryan Frantz (Peter Pasquale Award), Brittin Schlichter (Matthew Katz Award), Stephanie Blandon (Sandy Sankey Award), Nolan Schweitzer and Casey Vickery (House of Representatives Good Citizenship Award) and Caitlyn Barajas, Nick DelRomano, Deena Pappas and Michael Saxon (Congressional Citizenship Award).

Other awards were given out for safety patrol, band and strings programs. Fourth graders went to a pool party at the Spring City Pool the next day.

A Home and School Volunteer Social was held for volunteers participating in the program on June 2. Posters signed by the whole class were presented to the volunteers, while staff gave out food and beverage along with monetary donations and decorations for the event.

Limerick's Back to School Night will be held on Sep. 7.

Oaks Elementary School

Enrollment numbers were not issued from Oaks. However, a long list of events was given, including:

  • A May 18 fourth grade spring concert (special thanks to Heather Kiser, James Westlake and Emily Murphy for directing)
  • A May 24 seventh annual walk-a-thon to benefit The Food Allergy and Anaphylaxis Network and the Epilepsy Foundation. A check for $2,386.55 will be sent to each, for a total of $4,773.10. Overall, more than $42,000 has been raised to various organizations
  • Kindergarten Orientation, which was held on May 26
  • A May 24 wax museum that was presented from the children to the parents. Children dressed as famous people in history.
  • A May 25 magic and illusion assembly for kindergarteners through second graders. The assembly taught students about nutrition
  • Principal for the Day on June 2, where third grader Matthew Kain dressed in a shirt and tie and oversaw various activities of the school that day
  • A June 7 fourth grade class trip to Brandywine Picnic Park
  • A visitation to the Intermediate School on June 8 for fourth graders
  • And a June 10 carnival themed "Oaks, the Greatest School on Earth." Classrooms designed booths with games and activities and other carnival features including dunk tanks, clowns, jugglers, popcorn and Rita's water ice were available. Credit was given by school counselor Jennifer McVey

Enrollment numbers were not reported for Royersford; however, there was plenty going on, including:

  • A fourth grade seminar called Starlab, where students learned about the skies on June 1
  • A June 2 trip to the fifth/sixth grade center for fourth graders
  • Olympic Day on June 3, where first through fourth grade students competed and cooperated with indoor and outdoor games
  • An insect presentation for second graders on June 7 called Link Davis Presentation on Entomology
  • A beach day outside, with free lunches in beach buckets on June 8 - a great way to end the year with friends and teachers
  • A night of fun for fourth graders as they celebrated their graduation from their old school
  • A second and fourth grade talent show on June 13
  • And a school-wide Dance Revolution assembly on June 14

Spring City Elementary School

Enrollment numbers were not released for Spring City, but there were plenty of activities going on at the school at the end of the year.

A safety patrol recognition dinner was held on May 24 at the Spring City Lions Club. Pat Batement was honored, along with the students in the safety patrol for service to the school. Pizza and bingo were on the agenda that evening.

An appreciation luncheon for the Home and School Association staff was held on May 25. Staff was given Wawa gift cards and a generous lunch.

Second graders had a chance to hang out with Eagleville Elementary School pen pals on June 1 to see school plays and puppet shows, as well as participate in a picnic.

Kindergarten classes had a fun day on June 2 for a backyard party, where high school students painted faces and put on fun tables at the outdoor event. Plenty of games and food were available for the kids. Twelve parents were involved in the event as volunteers.

A pool party was held for first through fourth grade students, along with food and a magic show on June 2.

The Home and School Association volunteers got a recognition reception on June 6. Overall, 72 volunteers were honored for the many events they help put on.

Marylu Onorato helped put on a Title I Reading Awards Assembly on June 13. Samuel Campbell and Jocelyn Francis, both students, were presented with the Christ Award, which gave each a savings bond and recognition on a plaque that hangs in the school's foyer.

Finally, the fourth graders toured the fifth and sixth grade center on June 7, a fourth grade after school graduation trip to Phoenixville Bowling Lanes was held on June 8 and on June 9, the fourth graders celebrated again at Ozzie's.
