Spring-Ford High School's May 4 Texting Awareness Day Spotlights the Importance of Staying Focused While Driving

LIMERICK — students are taking a stand against texting while driving by sharing the caveat that no message is worth a life. Educators in all 10 PAC-10 high schools across the region will share this point on Friday, May 4, when the schools will jointly host the first ever Don’t Text and Drive Awareness Day.
Educators at each of the PAC-10 schools will share a public service announcement video concerning texting and driving to their students, which will discuss the dangers and consequences of the practice and how it can result in injury and death. Following the video, students will be asked to sign “Don’t Text and Drive” pledges. Those vows will be placed on display in a prominent location in each respective school.

Spring-Ford Area Senior High School students Allison Kratz and Morgan Lee, who spearheaded the event, explained they wanted to create the Don’t Text and Drive Awareness Day to help raise awareness of a growing problem that is occurring when people get behind the wheel of their cars.
“We wanted everyone to start becoming conscious of their decisions and how a simple text could change someone’s life forever,” Kratz and Lee said.
“Our students and the public need to understand that texting and driving do not go together,” Spring-Ford Area Senior High School Principal Patrick Nugent said. “Thanks to the hard work of Allison and Morgan, we can share this important message with all of our students.”
