ROYERSFORD - The Spring-Ford Educational Foundation will sponsor a free summer concert featuring the Upper Darby Sousa Band starting at 7 p.m. on Friday, July 8, in the auditorium of Spring-Ford High School, 350 S. Lewis Rd.

The Upper Darby Sousa Band has been playing the music of John Philip Sousa and his band since 1987. Founded by retired music teacher Thomas J. Hoey, the band's mission is to preserve the legacy of music composed and performed by Sousa. The Upper Darby Sousa band has performed at the Upper Darby Fourth of July fireworks, Longwood Gardens, Rose Tree Summer Festival, Independence Hall in Philadelphia, Cape May, and at the Republican National Convention. The band has also played for former President Jimmy Carter.

Well-known for its authentic interpretations of Sousa's works, the band is made up of 90 musicians from all walks of life who share a love for Sousa's music. Perfect for the week of July 4, the performance is sure to be a dramatic and stirring lesson in patriotism for those who attend.
