ROYERSFORD - 's sophomore class officers are donating time each month to bring meals to people in Royersford as part of the Meals on Wheels program.
President David Gulati, Vice President Kole Lyons, Treasurer Karl Segletes and Secretary Helena Mullen, who are all sophomores, have been making monthly visits to residents since fall of 2010. The students ride in a van along with Assistant Principal Robb Colyer and Guidance Counselor Denise Johnston and help deliver food to senior citizens throughout the borough as part of the Meals on Wheels program.
Mr. Colyer, who started the monthly trips as a way to give back to the community, said the students involved in the effort are committed and sincere about wanting to help those in their community who are in need.
"I think they get a sense of pride from doing something that they know is good for other people," he said.
The students said making the monthly meal deliveries is something they have committed to because they enjoy being able to serve others.
"We are happy to be able to give back to the community," said David. "It's a really good feeling knowing that in some small way we are able to make a difference."
The Meals on Wheels Association of America is the oldest and largest national organization composed of and representing local senior nutrition programs.
