SFHS to Portray Mock Crash for Safety Awareness
Spring-Ford High School's April 20 mock crash activity demonstrates the life-altering consequences of making dangerous decisions

The following release was sent in by Phil Ellingsworth Jr., representing the Spring-Ford Area School District:
ROYERSFORD — Spring-Ford Area Senior High School students will see firsthand the potentially deadly consequences of mixing dangerous activities with their prom night festivities during the 2012 Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Mock Crash demonstration. Sponsored by State Farm, the 8 a.m. Friday, April 20 event underscores the importance of making responsible decisions traveling to and from the celebration. The demonstration will be held in the 10-12 Grade Center’s parking lot, located at 350 S. Lewis Road in Royersford.
Student actors will portray victims of a fatal automobile accident that was caused by driving under the influence and other life-altering decisions. Local emergency responders will work to rescue the students from an actual crashed car and will treat the victims at the scene, while others will be taken away by ambulances and a medical helicopter. The message is designed to help 11th- and 12th-grade students drive safely and make wise choices during their April 21 prom festivities.

“Our local emergency crews have been very helpful in making this event as real as an actual crash site to help our students understand that their choices have a real and lasting impact,” Class of 2013 House Principal Jeff Kollar said. “We believe it is important that Spring-Ford students are safe during prom season and that they make conscious decisions to protect themselves and others around them.”
A rain date of April 27 at 8 a.m. has been scheduled in the event of inclement weather.
