Spring City Planning Commission Meets with East Vincent Township for Yearly Brainstorming Session

Spring-City and East Vincent discuss development

Wednesday night, at , the Planning Commissions for both Spring City Borough and East Vincent Township, came together, to brainstorm possibilities for economic development in the area with unfortunate landlocked properties and lack of economic funding of both current projects. Projects include the , and future projects such as a community center to serve as a Schuylkill River Trailhead.

Pennhurst was a hot topic issue with the borough discussing recent complaints from residents of the dank smell of the mulching compost from Penn Organics, as well as the constant unwelcome traffic of the large trucks hauling waste in and out of the property. The planning commission also discussed the possibility of a trailhead community center and day care facility located at 135 South Main Street, that was placed on a back-burner due to uncertain economic funding.

Spring City Borough is currently in the process of planning the development and new construction of a new Spring City Library, upgrading the current 800-square-foot library to a 9,400-square-foot building. Construction is pending county and borough engineer comments as well as a preliminary review from the Chester County Commission.

A common question that arose in all construction projects presented to the planning commission was where to create parking for both the library and other future projects, as Main Street in Spring City is currently landlocked with tightly knit properties and only one-sided street parking. The Spring City Library is currently in talks with neighboring properties to possibly come to a parking agreement.

The Tel Vil land development and subdivision on Hunsberger Road and South Main Street, as well Gambone Land Development of 501 South Main St. are also currently paused projects, as they are both waiting to hear from the DEP review on the soil and water. Final reviews for both projects are still pending. Philip Hunsberger was willing to pay or loan the borough the money to proceed with a 537 plan, but there is no guarantee the project would go through, so the borough had declined to take his money upfront in an effort to proceed with development.

After two hours of discussing ideas of possible ways to bring in economic funding to Main Street of Spring City and up into East Vincent Township between the two commissions, both felt the meeting was very progressive and inspiring with hopes to meet again before another year passes again. Both authorities feel it is necessary, to work hospitality with each other, in an effort to use all resources available and expand construction and development of both cities, during our time of economic hardship.
