Spring City Prepares For Sesquicentennial Celebrations

SPRING CITY, PA -- 2017 is a very special year for Spring City.

It marks 150 years since residents settled on the name "Springville" for the small community nestled along the banks of the Schuylkill River. The year was 1867. The borough would soon become known as Spring City, for the many natural springs in the area.

In celebration of a century and a half of history and culture, the Spring City Sesquicentennial Committee is hosting a series of community events.

A kickoff Kickoff SesquiSerenade will be held on Saturday, March 25.

There's an Easter Egg hunt on Saturday, April 8.

A Spring in the City 5k will be held on Saturday, April 29.

Community Day is May 20.

The Spring City Car Show is June 17.

The Hot Air Balloon Festival in August 11.

And the Sesquicentennial Parade is August 12.
