Spring-Ford Game of the Week

A breakdown of the Patch-Picked game of the week, with two runners up.

Girls Basketball over Boyertown, 56-41

The girls basketball team went to Boyertown on Tuesday night - it was the first time they saw the Bears since the PAC-10 Championship loss. With that in mind, the Lady Rams went out and after a close first half, trounced the Bears in a 56-41 victory, making the game our first game of the week.

In the early going, Spring-Ford was definitely in some foul trouble, registering seven fouls in the first quarter and adding three more by the end of the half.

"We're just maybe a half a step behind," said head coach Jeff Rinehimer. "You want to tell them to be aggressive, but aggressive doesn't necessarily mean fouls. Sometimes we're making them in bad spots. We're still trying to iron that out."

However, with a 25-23 lead coming out into the second half, the girls cleaned up their foul mess and began a stretch of domination in the third quarter.

"I just said keep hustling and playing your defense," Rinehimer said. "I told them, they're not going to quit - whether it's a one-point game, a 30-point game or a 100-point game - they're coming."

The girls went on a 14-3 tear in the third, leading 41-26 at the start of the fourth. They didn't look back from there.

"They did what the team did," he concluded. "They set the tone offensively and defensively. They do whatever the team needs. That's what all the kids do."

The Rams went 50-percent even from the foul line (8/16) and had 29 total rebounds. Points leaders included seniors Sammy Stipa (12) and Jaida Burgess (11).

"We've got to get our foul shooting up, we know that," said Rinehimer. "We've got to get to the line a little bit more. We always want to get our rebounding up a little bit more. That's intensity points we lose on our scale."

The Lady Rams handled Methacton two nights later. Their next game is on Dec. 22 against Owen J. Roberts.

Boys Basketball also defeats Boyertown

The boys basketball team took on Boyertown at home on Tuesday night, winning 48-43. Head coach Mike Young was happy with the defensive effort by his Rams.
