Spring-Ford kids support Japan quake victims
Students, staff, and families at Brooke Elementary School donated $2,651 to the American Red Cross for disaster relief in Japan.

Shaken by the images from the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, Brooke Elementary School students, staff and families came together to collect $2,651 to donate to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.
Over the past two weeks, extra chores have been done, snacks were sacrificed, allowances were shared, and some students even set up a lemonade stand to raise money for the suffering country. Students commented that news of the disaster made them feel sad and wanted to do something to help.
"My friends and I had a lemonade stand to raise money for Japan because we felt bad that a lot of people died and lost their homes," said Jillian Quigley, who along with Grace Caccese and Maddie Giorgi set up the stand. "We felt good about helping them."
Other students cited the golden rule as their reason for helping.
"I raised money because if this happened to us, I hope other people would help us," said Tyler Salamone.
