Spring-Ford: New super getting a big raise from previous job
Dr. David Goodin will receive an effective $57,000 raise if, as expected, he becomes the superintendent of the Spring-Ford Area School District.

Dr. David Goodin, the heir apparent to Dr. Marsha Hurda as superintendent of the Spring-Ford Area School District, will earn $165,000 for the 2011-12 school year if, as expected, his contract is approved at the Monday evening work session of the district's school board.
Goodin's contract would run from July 5 of this year until June 30, 2015. Goodin currently earns $108,000 per year as superintendent of the Connellsville Area School District (CASD) outside of Pittsburgh.
Much of Goodin's prospective pay increase may be attributable to differences in the general income levels between the CASD and the Spring-Ford area. According to data from the Census Bureau's American Community Survey, the median household incomes for Limerick, Royersford, Spring City, and Upper Providence, which comprise the Spring-Ford district, were $82,546, $49,063, $57,527, and $100,794, respectively, for the years 2005-2009.

During the same period, the median household incomes for the municipalities that make up the CASD were significantly lower. The figures for Connellsville Township, Bullskin Township, Dunbar Borough, Dunbar Township, and Springfield Township from 2005-2009 were $32,891, $43,261, $33,750, $40,235, and $36,105, respectively.
Hurda's base salary for the 2010-11 school year was $183,894.
