Spring-Ford, Pope John Paul II brace for tonight's showdown

The Pioneer Athletic Conference boys basketball champion will be determined at Perkiomen Valley High School this evening. Tipoff is at 7:03pm.

The Spring-Ford area will be home to a new Pioneer Athletic Conference champion tonight.

In its first year of operation, Pope John Paul II High School of Upper Providence will square off against Spring-Ford High School for the PAC-10 boys' basketball title tonight at the neutral site of .

Both tonight's game and the girls' championship game against Boyertown tomorrow night are scheduled to start precisely at the unusual time of 7:03pm.

"It's TV time," Spring-Ford athletic director Mickey McDaniel joked last night. McDaniel is also the director of the Pioneer Athletic Conference.

The ticket booth will open at 6:00pm. "Several thousand" tickets are available, according to office staff at Perkiomen Valley High School.

Spring-Ford High School was festooned yesterday and today with one-page flyers exhorting students to turn out en masse to support the team.

"We need EVERYBODY," the flyers read.
