Spring-Ford student's work featured in art exhibit

Lisa Johnson's "The Escapist" is featured in the exhibit's digital image & computer graphics category.

Spring-Ford High School senior Lisa Johnson's artwork has been selected to appear in the 2011 Pennsylvania State Education Association's 24th annual "Touch the Future" high school student art show, which will be on display through Feb. 27th at the Abington Art Center, 515 Meetinghouse Road in Jenkintown.

Lisa won first place in the digital imaging/computer graphics category for her piece called "The Escapist." She created the surrealist-inspired work using Adobe Photoshop. Lisa was presented with an award during a Feb. 13th reception for students, parents and friends held at the Art Center. Lisa's work was selected out of more than 1,300 entries and will be displayed among approximately 300 other pieces of art made by students in 27 school districts throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties.

"Lisa's 'The Escapist' and the award she received for her efforts are true testaments to her hard work and perseverance through the creative process.  From the early stages of thumbnail sketching, to almost forgoing the design completely, Lisa continued to add, delete, create, and take constructive criticism until the finished piece was created," said her teacher, Chadwick Strickler.

Sponsored by the Mid-Eastern Region of the PSEA, the "Touch the Future" exhibit is being juried by Carmina Cianciulli, Assistant Dean for Admissions, Tyler School of Art, Temple University. The show is sponsored by the Mid-Eastern Region of the PSEA. For exhibition hours, visit www.abingtonartcenter.org.
