Traffic stoppages Monday on Royersford-Spring City bridge

The bridge will be closed to traffic during two 15-minute windows between 12-5am so equipment and materials can be moved onto the work site.

There will be lane restrictions and two 15-minute traffic stoppages Monday (March 7) between 12:01 a.m. and 5 a.m. for construction on the Main Street bridge over the Schuylkill River connecting Spring City Borough, Chester County with Royersford Borough, Montgomery County, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) today announced. In case of inclement weather, work will be rescheduled for 12:01 a.m. through 5 a.m. Tuesday (March 8).

The short-term stoppages early Monday are needed for PennDOT’s contractor to transport materials onsite for an ongoing bridge reconstruction project.  PennDOT is rehabilitating the structurally deficient stone arch bridge to preserve its structural integrity and enhance safety and efficiency for the traveling public.  The work includes bridge beam, parapet and deck repairs, and new paving, guiderail and pavement markings.

The Main Street bridge also will continue to have lane restrictions weekdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 18.  Starting in mid-summer, the bridge will be closed and detoured during late night and overnight hours (after 10 p.m. each night).  Work is expected to be completed this fall.  The Main Street bridge, built in 1922, carries about 17,000 vehicles per day.
