Unit 2 Shut Down At Limerick Generating Station For Refueling; 2,000 New Workers Arrive
More than 2,000 workers are arriving at the Limerick Generating Station as Unit 2 has been shut down for refueling.

LIMERICK, PA -- Exelon's Limerick Generating Station removed Unit 2 from operation on Sunday night as they began a planned outage for refueling.
Exelon is bringing in more than 2,000 workers to assist with the refueling process, which will replace about a third of the fuel in the Unit 2 reactor. The routine outage occurs for each reactor every two years.
Workers will also perform more than 16,000 inspections, Exelon said.

Many of the new workers are from union halls. Area business leaders are happy about what that means for the local economy.
“When supplemental workers come to Limerick for the refueling outage, it means additional business for our community,” Tri County Area Chamber of Commerce President Eileen Dautrich said in a statement.“Area businesses welcome the additional workers, who take advantage of all the amenities we have to offer, whether it’s our restaurants, hotels or shopping.”
