Unsung Hero: Hard Work and a Sense of Humor - Boys Golf's Tyler Keim

Tyler Keim made it to day two of districts this year and head coach Jeff Mast praised his hard work and sense of humor.

From Day One, boys golf head coach Jeff Mast said that the success of the team would only be as good as the senior leadership. It appears to have worked to the advantage for the Rams as three individuals made it to districts and represented in team-play.

According to Mast, a major part of that leadership is senior Tyler Keim, who was one of the three representatives in district play.

"Tyler in the last half of the season really assumed that role," Mast said. "He has all the tools it takes to be a fine golfer. He’s got a good sense of humor and really enjoys himself out there and has emerged as the team leader."

Keim shot a 77 and made it to Day Two, but did not make it in the top 16 to go to Eastern Regionals. He thinks his most successful year was his final outing for the Rams.

"I’d say it’d have to be this year," Keim said. "Moving on to the second day of districts feels good. I knew I had the ability to come out and shoot a low number [on day one] - 77 is respectable. It’s good to have a few more, but I’ll take it."

Although he had played golf his freshman year, he did not play on the Spring-Ford team until 10th grade.

Keim said he took it more seriously and began to like the game a lot by that point, but did not feel hindered by not playing on the team the first year. Some of his best memories come from sports and the golf team. Keim hopes to make the baseball team this year before he makes his grand exit.

York is his top choice collegiately, and Keim hopes to go on to play golf there. West Chester and Eastern are also options. Career choices right now seem to be accounting or marketing.

Given the chance to pick a "dream foursome" to play with, Kiem said he'd definitely like to include Charles Barkley.

"I’d just like to see his swing," Keim said. "I love playing with my grandpa. He’s great to play with. The last one would probably be my uncle. He can make me laugh so hard on the golf course. I like to play loose."

With Keim as one of the leaders, Mast praised all of his 2011 golfers.

"These guys are a class act," said Mast. "They’re class acts on the course, off the course. They’re good students and all-around good kids."
