Viewfinder: Fused glass tile art at Limerick Elementary
3rd grade students worked with Artist-in-Residence Jessica Gorlin Liddell to complete the project.
Third-grade art students at Limerick Elementary School spent this week working on a fused glass tile project and put the finishing touches on their work of art Friday morning.
The project was an addition to a mosaic that was completed earlier this year. Students worked with art teacher Traci Evans and Philadelphia-based mosaic artist Jessica Gorlin Liddell to design and create the work.
“I’ve been doing these projects with schools for 14 years. I just started using glass fusing this year. These mosaics are my specialty, and I love to work with kids because it makes them feel good about themselves," Liddell said.
The piece was placed on display at the entrance to the school's outdoor classroom.

"It’s a nice way to let the students shine. They can see their work hanging up and get this sense of pride. Besides Arts Alive, I’ve worked with Perkin Center for the Arts, Mural Arts, and many more,” Liddell said.
The Artist in Residence program is coordinated by Art's Alive!, a program that brings professional artists together with students and communities to produce permanent works of art. Funding was provided by the Limerick Elementary Home and School Association, as well as a grant obtained by the school.
