Where Flock Cameras Are Located Around The Royersford, Limerick Area

LIMERICK TOWNSHIP, PA — As concerns rise over Flock cameras, storage of personal data, and a "surveillance state" with rapidly advancing new technologies, one nonprofit is working to keep residents around the country informed.

The organization DeFlock has put together a comprehensive map showing the locations of automated license plate readers around the country.

The map shows locations of numerous brands of surveillance cameras, including Flock and those produced by companies like Motorola Solutions and Genetec.

Watchdog Finding Flock indicates that 142,462 such surveillance cameras have been documented across the United States as of Sept. 24, nearly all of them over the past few years.

In the greater Limerick and Royersford areas, Flock and similar automated license plate reading cameras are in the following locations:

Limerick

• 2 at South Township Line Road and Souder Road
• 4 on Lightcap Road by the Philadelphia Premium Outlets parking areas

Upper Providence

• 4 at Egypt Road and Black Rock Road
• 4 at the parking lot off Station Avenue near Lowe's and PJ Whelihan's

Phoenixville

• 1 camera at the intersection of Nutt Road and W. Bridge Street (Motorola)
• 4 cameras at the intersection of Kimberton Road and Conestoga Road (West Pikeland - Axis)

Norristown and West Norriton

• 4 cameras at the intersection of West Markley Street and Main Street
• 4 at East Lafayette Street and DeKalb Street
• 1 at Hamilton Street and W. Washington Street
• 1 at the shopping center on General Washington Avenue, off Egypt Road (West Norriton)
• 4 at the intersection of South Trooper Road and Egypt Road (West Norriton)
• 4 at the intersection of South Trooper Road and Audubon Road (West Norriton)
• 2 at the intersection of Jefferson Avenue and Monroe Boulevard (West Norriton)
• 3 on Van Buren Avenue and Jefferson Avenue (West Norriton)
• 2 at Conshohocken Road and E. Ridge Pike (Plymouth Township)

Bridgeport, King of Prussia, and nearby

These only represent the cameras reported by volunteers and the community-built OpenStreetMap, which forms the database. Neither Flock or the government have released the total number of installations. The actual number is expected to be notably higher.

Some law enforcement leaders have aggressively defended the installation of cameras as a public safety measure. However, a growing bipartisan coalition of officials in both Pennsylvania and around the country are raising concerns about the unregulated technology, mass surveillance infrastructure, and the storage of data. Both Gov. Shapiro and his Republican challenger, Treasurer Stacy Garrity, have called for a statewide ban.
