Wrestling Places 3rd in District Duals
A recap of the weekend wrestling action at Upper Dublin High School.

With a berth in the state tournament on the line, the wrestling team defeated West Chester Rustin High School 33-31 in a District 1 AAA consolation semi-final Saturday afternoon. Spring-Ford went on to face a tough Council Rock North High School squad for third place, but, at that point, had already punched their ticket to the PIAA tournament.
In the gym of host Upper Dublin High School, the two teams would prove to be evenly matched. The teams would trade pins at 113 and 120 pounds, before WC Rustin would take a 13-6 lead courtesy a 12-3 major decision by 126-pounder Harkins and a 6-3 decision by 132-pounder Quinn.
However, Spring-Ford won the next three matches, sandwiching two decisions around a pin by 145-pounder Cooper.
The match came down to the wire, as heavy weight Lamberjack earned a crucial 5-4 decision over WC Rustin's Boyer to give the Rams a 33-27 lead with only one match remaining. The victor would ultimately seal the match for Spring-Ford, as even with a pin to tie the score at 33, WC Rustin still would have lost based on pin criteria.
106-pounder Hatzipovlidi only managed an 11-1 win to make the final score 33-31, Spring-Ford.
On Friday, the Rams defeated Pennsbury 36-19 before falling to Norristown 41-31 in the championship semifinals. WC Rustin fell to Marple-Newtown 34-33 before receiving a forfeit to advance to face Spring-Ford.
The Rams then earned a 35-21 victory over Council Rock North Saturday night to take third place at the District 1 AAA championships. The match included three overtime bouts, all of which were won by the Rams, and proved to be the difference in the match.
With both teams already holding a ticket to the state tournament via their victories in the district's consolation semi-finals, seeding in the competition was on the line as the Rams jumped out to an early lead.
Spring-Ford's Sean Hennessey would start the match with a 17-2 technical fall at 120 pounds, followed by a 8-3 decision from 126-pounder Jim Stong to give the Rams an 8-0 lead. After a win by CRN's John Dutrow at the 132-pound weight class, Spring-Ford would tighten its grips by winning the next three matches to take a commanding 23-4 lead heading into the 160-pound matchup.
However, the Indians rallied late, using a tough 5-3 decision by Eddie Mauceri at 160 and a pin by 220-pounder Tyler Callender to pull within 29-16 with three matches remaining. However, the Rams would seal the victory in the next bout, when heavyweight Joshua Boyer earned a 6-3 decision over Kyle Thorpe to take an insurmountable 32-16 lead.
The teams would split the next two bouts to make the final score 35-21 in Spring-Ford's favor.
