Describe what you do. “I was a scoutmaster for several troops in Georgia during the 1970s,” said Steven. “I have been the scoutmaster of Troop 86 for one year. Previously, I served on the troop committee for a year.”
Why and how long have you volunteered? “I have been involved in scouting since 1961 while living in Maryland,” said Steven. “I received the Eagle along and so did both my brothers. In 1964, I attended the National Jamboree in Washington, D.C. as a Boy Scout, then again in 2005 as a leader. I went from Boy Scout to leadership roles as soon as I was able.”
Tell us a story about any experiences you may have had with this organization. “My wife and I enjoy scouting and are both avid campers. We are an unusual couple in that we are both active with Boy Scouts.
“My wife and I have also been involved with the Trexler District, Minsi Tails Council and continue to serve as the troop’s merit badge counselor.
“We have both received the Silver Beaver Award, the District Award of Merit and the Wood Badge. We also both started Venturing Crew 120 in Allentown—now one of the oldest crews in the Minsi Trails Council.”
How can someone get involved with this group if they want? “Troop 86 is doing very well and I invite any boy over 11 to join. There is a Cub Scout Pack for boys under 11. Just call me at 610-966-7974 for information or come to a meeting at the Masonic Lodge on Rt 100 Sundays at 6 p.m.”
