This Week at the Library: 8,782 Books Read This Summer!
Fall program signups and information are out at the library!

This may be one of the only times I can remember typing this since starting these "This Week at the Library" posts, but there are no programs this week at the library! Don't get used to it, because it's rarer than a blue moon! But what is going on this week is still important if you want to take part in any of our Fall programs that will be featured in a "This Week" post in the future!
Fall Signups Are Out!
That's right, I said "Fall." It's been a great summer. In case you didn't check out our Facebook announcement last week, our readers crushed last summer's book count! 8,782 books read by our teens and kids!! Throw in a couple of hundred by our adults, and I'm fairly confident LML readers topped 9,000 books this summer!

As for Fall programs, the youngest programs fill fastest: the 2s and 3s morning storytimes out of the preschool storytimes, and the K-1st and 2nd-3rd grade groups for the elementary school age kids. We place kids in programs based by East Penn School District's cutoff date of Sept. 12 of the current school year. With kids in school, that's easy... it's just their current grade. But even for baby programs and preschool storytimes, whatever age they will be by 9/12, that's the program you'll sign your child up for the entire school year. (At some point, the number in the name become a bit of a misnomer, but I've tried removing it and parents get more confused!) There are a couple of reasons why we keep them in the same program for the whole school year, as well as why we follow East Penn's cutoff date to start, so if you have any questions or concerns, please let me know.
Preschool storytimes and baby programs will begin in September, the week of Labor Day, while the elementary school kids will begin in October once you get a chance to transition into the new school year and work out a new schedule. In addition to those more regular programs, we'll also have a Bedtime Booktime every month where kids can come in their pajamas to hear a few bedtime stories. It's usually the first Monday night of every month, following the K-1st grade program, and will be beginning in October, but due to Labor Day, September's will be on the second Monday night.

On the adult programming front, the Adult Book club will be meeting the second Wednesday of September at 10:30 a.m., but normally meet the first Wednesday of each month. If you're interested in this group at all, please contact the library for details. We'll also have John Royer, a retired engineer and MUFON field investigator, come share about UFO sightings in the area. He'll share his experience about a UFO sighting over Emmaus High School!
It's already been a busy morning with parents and kids stopping in to sign up so make sure you get in soon! For more details on any of our programs, please stop in, check out our website or call, and we'll answer any questions you may have! Enjoy the last few summer weeks, but get yourself ready for Fall programs at the library!
