This Week at the Library: Book Sale!

The Friends of the Lower Macungie Library book sale will be going on at the end of the week!

There are a couple of ways to support your library going on this week! The Friends’ Book Sale will begin at the end of the week. Thursday night, May 2, is the Friends’ Preview, then the sale runs 9 a.m to 4:30 p.m.  May 3 and 4.

On May 7 (coordinating with the Community Center-wide Community Day event), there will be a $5 bag sale from 2 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

It’s also the last couple of days to buy raffle tickets! $2/ticket or $5/3 tickets gets you in the running for a 42” HDTV, Kindle Fire or a couple of great gift cards to places like Wegman’s, Walmart or Texas Roadhouse. On top of a chance for these great prizes, you are helping support the library!

Now this week’s programs and events…

This week at the library:

Find out what's happening in Lower Macungiefor free with the latest updates from Patch.

Monday: Intro to Excel 2010; 6 p.m. Learn the basics of Microsoft Excel spreadsheets. Topics covered include: uses of Excel, formatting of spreadsheets, & simple formulas. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Tuesdays: Last day to purchase tickets for the raffle!

4 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of Sept. 12 based on the East Penn School District.

Job Searching and Resume Basics; 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Explore a variety of online employment resources (from skill assessments to popular job search sites), introduce the print career resources available at the library, and cover resume and cover letter writing basics. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

Raffle Winners will be chosen and notified!

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Again, advanced registration is required for storytimes, for the same reasons as above.

LML Board Meeting; 5 p.m. This date is for the April meeting of the board. The monthly board meeting, usually the 4th Thursday of the month, is open to the public.

Friends of the Lower Macungie Library Preview Night; 5-7:30 p.m.  Not a friend yet?  Sign up at the door for $10 and get the 1st pick of a great selection.  Super deals on fiction, non-fiction, audios, movies and children’s books.  Most priced from 50 cents to $2.  Please contact the library at 610-966-6964 or stop by the Circulation Desk for more information.

Hard to believe that this is the last regular storytime session of the school year! Beginning next week, we’ll switch to drop-bys on Wednesdays at 10:30 and 12:30 for the preschool ages through the end of May as I finish plans for summer reading. I recently put some general information on our Parents page on our website, so check that out if you’re already looking for summer reading info.

More to come next week on the Community Day event throughout the township Community Center next Tuesday, but it’s sure to be a not-to-be-missed event like last year, so mark that on your calendar already! There will be activities for all ages and organizations set up throughout the community center—the gym, rooms and library, as well as outside, weather permitting.

As always, if you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
