This Week at the Library: Holiday Activities and Library Schedule
This week at the library, including some closings information for the next two weeks.

Like many of you, I start this week with a heavy heart over the tragedy that happened in Newtown, CT. No words can fully express how heart-breaking it is, nor can it take away the pain of what those families will be living with as a result. There is no magic band-aid. Our thoughts and prayers go out to those families and the community. We’d also like to offer our assistance to you and your family if there is any way we can help during this time, perhaps by connecting you to resources or materials to discuss this tragedy with your children.
As for programs going on in the library this week, we have something every day, so check out what’s going on this week, including a holiday concert and food drive. The Macungie Minstrelaires will perform holiday songs and the food donations will benefit the Zionsville Food Pantry. See below for more details.

Monday: Space Trek: Aliens! 6:30pm. This is our space themed school year program with 4-6th graders, aka the Aliens. This program happens the third Monday night of every month. Each month, we’ll read some books about that month’s theme, then do an activity or craft. Advanced registration is required, and this week, I’ll put the signup sheets out for the remaining program dates through Winter and Spring.
Tuesday: Macungie Minstrelaires concert, 6pm, Community Center. Join us to hear some holiday songs by this local group! Admission to the concert is a donation of one non-perishable food item, which we’ll take to the Zionsville Food Pantry. Contact the library for more information.

Wednesday: Winter Drop-by Storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm, children 2-5 years old as of 9/12/12. As we all get a little busy during the holiday season, we take a break from our normal school year sessions of storytimes. We still want to give you an opportunity to bring your child in for stories, though, so join us for drop-bys whenever it fits into your schedule! Come as often as possible to keep your child in the routine for the new cycle starting in January! No signup required.
Thursday: LML Board Meeting; 5pm, library program room. The monthly meeting of the library board of directors is open to the public. Contact the library for details.
Friday: Baby Lapsit, 9:30am, a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were 11 months old or younger as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.
Ones Storytime, 10:30am; a “beginner storytime”/introduction to the library for children who were between 12-23 months as of 9/12/12; advanced registration required.
Looking ahead to the last remaining weeks of 2012, we have a few closings to make you aware of as you plan your library visits. The library will be closed next Monday and Tuesday, reopening on Wednesday at 10:00. We will be open on December 31st from 10am-2pm, and closed on January 1st, 2013, and reopening on January 2nd at 10am. Please note that for any of the days we are closed the entire day, no materials are due that day. For example, if you check any movies out today or tomorrow, they wouldn’t be due until Wednesday December 26th. All closings are posted closer to the applicable dates on our website and Facebook pages, so be sure to check there if you have any questions.
Finally, we announced last week that we’d be having an eReader workshop in early January. So if you have recently received an eReader, tablet, or other mobile device… or you know you may for the holidays, contact us for more details about the workshop on January 15th. We’ll have a variety of eReaders available as well to look at in case you’re thinking of making a purchase but want to see them up close. The workshop will focus on how to browse and check out items from our digital eBook collection, as well as any questions you may have. Space will be limited, so contact us as soon as possible if you’re interested.
As always, contact us if you have any questions about any of our programs, and we hope to see you in sometime this week!
