We Pin, Do You?

You can now follow Lower Macungie Library on Pinterest to discover new titles, technology information and storytime themes!

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, We’re not your grandmother’s library. (No offense, grandma!) We have wi-fi and eBooks. We’re on Facebook, Patch, a teen blog, even Google+ (if anyone ever jumps on that bandwagon!) and now… Pinterest.

We actually have been, but up till now, I was using it mainly as a way to offer parents and grandparents ideas of books and crafts or activities they could do with kids for a complete storytime outside the library. This morning, along with our assistant director/technology lead, we overhauled our Pinterest account to be more useful to everyone.

So what you’ll find now…

  • All of the storytime theme boards that already existed are called “Storytime//Theme”, so that they are all organized together within our boards. You'll find book suggestions, crafts and activities you can use for a storytime at home.
  • New titles to our collection can be found as “New Books//Collection Name”. You’ll find boards for Adult Fiction, Adult Non-fiction, Young Adult, Juvenile and Easy Books. We plan to add 5-10 titles with each order we get in.
  • Two Technology Boards—Social Media and eBooks—can provide helpful and updated information. Links to OverDrive help and a Facebook malware alert, for example, are already up.

In the future, we’ll add boards as we identify needs. For example, if one of the local schools assigns a book report, and we see mass amounts of 5th graders coming in for a book in the same genre, we can create a suggested reading page. Or if there’s some hot bestseller, we can identify some readalikes you can try out.

You can choose to follow all of our boards or only the ones that interest you most. Feel free to suggest topics, too!

We’re excited about this and welcome your feedback!
