Lower Mac Restricts Shepherd Hills Parking

Seven roads will be affected in the townhouse section.

The Lower Macungie Commissioners, upon recommendation of the Public Safety Commission, unanimously approved to restrict parking on seven streets in the townhouse section of the Shepherd Hills development in Wescosville.

Roger Reis, president of the commissioners, said at the July 7 meeting, “We received complaints about a tractor trailer being parked on Kart Drive.

“The driver was seen getting picked up by someone in a car and leaving the truck there for two to three days at a time. It was clear the truck driver was not a resident of the area.”

The townhouse area of Shepherd Hills has a unique parking situation, he went on to say.  Nearly all the parking is head-on, or pull-in, parking with little parallel parking.  “Parking a tractor trailer in there interferes with the line of site and is a cause for concern,” he said.

An ordinance will be drawn up by Solicitor Richard Somach stating the following:

  • The parking of vehicles over 26,000 pounds will be prohibited.
  • Vehicles parked on the posted streets will be towed.
  • Signs will be posted on seven streets:  Greens Drive, Driver Place, Tee Court, Eagle Street, Wood Lane, Wedge Lane and Kart Drive.

“Currently there is no restriction for parking on any public street in the township, but because of the uniqueness of this situation, it has become necessary in this location,” Somach said.
