Mom Beats Up Daughter for Not Having Abortion, Police Say
A Lower Macungie Township woman attacked and threatened to kill her pregnant daughter in their home for not getting an abortion, according to police.

A Lower Macungie Township woman attacked her pregnant daughter in their home, including punching her in the belly, after finding out that her daughter didn’t get an abortion and had no intention of doing so, according to police.
Magdalena Mateia-Bitlan, 37, of 7740 Scenic View Drive, also threatened to kill her daughter and her daughter’s unborn baby during the fight in their home, police say.
Mateia-Bitlan had kicked her daughter out of the house about two weeks prior upon learning of the pregnancy and then invited her daughter to come back home on Monday. The daughter returned home on Tuesday after school and was in the kitchen getting something out of the refrigerator at about noon when Mateia-Bitlan asked her if she’d had an abortion, police say.

When the daughter informed Mateia-Bitlan that she had not had an abortion and did not plan to get one, Mateia-Bitlan told her to go upstairs, pack her things and leave. Mateia-Bitlan followed the daughter upstairs shoved her daughter in the belly and continued to punch her in the belly.
The daughter then lay on the bed face down to protect her stomach, according to police. The mother continued to hit and scratch the daughter in the back, yelling that she hates her, wants her dead and was going to kill her and her baby, according to police.

The daughter managed to escape, grabbed her belongings and getting out of the house. Her mother followed her outside, throwing things at her, police said.
The daughter reported the attack at the Pennsylvania State Police Fogelsville barracks at 6:47 p.m. Tuesday, police say. She had red scratch marks on her back near her left shoulder blade and was complaining of back pain, police said.
Mateia-Bitlan was charged with terroristic threats (first-degree misdemeanor); simple assault (second degree misdemeanor) and harassment (summary offense). She was released on $10,000 unsecured bail after being arraigned before District Judge Wayne Maura of Bethlehem.
