Just a few short weeks after the ever popular Musikfest, The Great Allentown Fair is returning for the 161st year! The fair has become a Lehigh Valley signature event that signals the closing of summer and the start of a new fall season. This isn't your typical fair with a few rides, games, and carnival food; it is SO MUCH MORE!
From music, concerts, food and games to rides, events, animals, and the old time favorite dunk tank, the Great Allentown Fair is one of those can't miss Lehigh Valley events. People from all over the region flock to the Allentown Fair Grounds each and every year to take part in all this fair has to offer.
The fair begins August 27th, 2012 and continues through September 2nd, kicking off with John Mayer and his special guest, 2012 American Idol winner Phillip Phillips, part of the Born & Raised Tour 2013. Also highlighting on the Grandstand are Austin Mahone and Bridgit Mendler co-headlining a show, Zac Brown Band, Luke Bryan, Toby Keith, one of country music’s most enduring artists, and Jeff Dunham. Closing the fair, as it does every year, is the Demolition Derby.
Other highlights of the Allentown Fair include the huge variety of food and games, rides and culinary contests. Entertainment for all ages can be found at the fair! Returning this year with some "pig-citement," is Robinson's Paddling Porkers that race on a track and a 24-foot pool, as well as the Paul Bunyan Lumberjack Show, with three lumberjacks this year!
The Great Allentown fair is considered a "wonderful land of ahh's - where cotton is candy, corn is buttered and popped, apples are caramel coated and horses gallop to calliopemusic." There is so much that happens at the fair, it's practically impossible to tell you everything, so take a look at this year's brochure for all of the totally AHH-some events!
The Allentown Fairgrounds is located at 302 N 17th St in Allentown, and can be reached at 610-433-7541, with parking available on site through Tunnel Gate 7 off of Liberty Street. Cost is $8 per vehicle during the Allentown Fair. For people over the age of 12, the cost to get into the fair is only $6.00, while children under 12 get in for free!
With so many things to do, see, and experience at the Great Allentown Fair, it will be hard to choose just one day to go!
How many days do you think you'll be at the fair this year?
