We had a little bit of snow this past weekend! First substantial amount… which makes it seem more like “winter” now for some reason. While it’s fresh on people’s minds with some delays this morning in area school districts, I thought it would be a good time to start sharing how you can find out about winter delays and closings here at the library.
We operate independent of the East Penn School District in our own delays and closings decisions, meaning even if EPSD is closed one day, we may still open or open late. However, as far as children’s programs go, we take a cue from East Penn: If EPSD has a two hour delay, morning programs are cancelled. If EPSD has an early dismissal, afternoon and evening programs are cancelled. If EPSD is closed for the day, all children’s programs are cancelled. You can find the library’s winter weather delay and closing information by checking our website (www.lowermaclib.org) which will have a gray banner across the top with any information, on our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/lowermacungielibrary), or on WFMZ.
In between Friday night’s non-snow event and Sunday’s snow, we managed to squeeze in a quick visit from Santa! He enjoyed getting to meet all the kids who came out… we had quite a crowd and it was fun as always!

Monday: Roots; 6:30pm; Gr 2nd-3rd. This is our monthly program for children in 2nd and 3rd grade. We “dug” the “Dig” summer reading theme so much, we decided to keep it going during the school year, focusing on “roots”… plants, trees, hair, family history. Each month we’ll read some stories and do a craft. Advanced registration is required.
Wednesday: Winter Drop-by Storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Ages 2-5 (since 9/12/13). No signup required. Drop in any Wednesday the first three weeks in December as you schedule permits and we’ll read some stories and do a simple craft!
Thursday: Boulevard Express Bluegrass Band; 6:00pm (film), 7:00pm (performance). Join us for a viewing of the film Down from the Mountain (about the real-life inspiration for the George Clooney film, O Brother Where Art Thou), followed by a performance by Boulevard Express bluegrass band (back by popular demand after their performance from the America's Music bluegrass program!)
If you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
