This Week at the Library

It never fails… I pick a season or weather related theme for storytimes and the exact OPPOSITE happens! Last week was Fall stories, so of course we had crazy upper 80 degree weather. Now, hopefully once this rain moves out, we’ll move into more seasonable Fall weather!

One thing that is ALWAYS in season… updated technology! We’re pleased to announce that we’ve installed a brand new printer/copier for public use. We’ve already heard from patrons who’ve noticed faster printing.

In programming this week, we have the return of elementary school age programs, a computer class and another America’s Music program… they’ve been quite popular so far, so be sure to check them out! Each program includes a film and performance, and we’ve partnered up with a lot of great organizations. It's also signup week for the preschool storytimes. The signups will go out the day of the age group's storytime for the next 5 week cycle.

Now on to the lineup!

Monday: Roots; 6:30pm; Gr K-1st. This is our monthly program for children in Kindergarten and first grade.  We “dug”  the “Dig” summer reading theme so much, we decided to keep it going during the school year, focusing on “roots”… plants, trees, hair, family history. Each month we’ll read some stories and do a craft. Advanced registration is required.

Bedtime booktime; 7:30pm; ages 2-8. Our monthly bedtime storytime. Kids can come out in their PJs to hear bedtime stories. We’ll read a few stories and send you off in time for bed! No signup required.

Tuesday: 4 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for storytimes, as there’s a limit to how many kids I can fit into the program room, plus advanced registration helps me prepare for the right number of kids… not ending up “short” or wasting craft supplies when people don’t show, and there’s an age cutoff date of 9/12 based on the East Penn School District.

Wednesday: 3 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above J

Thursday: 2 year old storytimes, 10:30am and 12:30pm. Advanced registration is required for same reasons as above J

Intro to Computer Basics: Level 1; 11am-1pm. Learn the basics of using a computer, both its external and internal parts, using a mouse, and basic windows operation. Advanced registration and a $5 class fee are required.

Friday: America’s Music: Swing Jazz. Film at 6:30pm, Performance at 8pm. Come out for the film presentation on Jazz at Kutztown’s Schaeffer Auditorium (52000 Kutztown Road, Kutztown, PA) Followed by a performance of the Kutztown University Jazz Ensemble. This program is part of our grant, America’s Music, in partnership with National Endowment for the Humanities, American Library Association and the Tribeca Film Institute.  It is free and open to the public. Contact the library for more information.

Just a reminder that the LML bumper magnets are now on sale. They are $5 each and a fun way to support the library! If you’re looking to donate some books, the Friends will accept book donations through Friday the 11th for the next Book Sale in November.

As always, if you have any questions on programs or the library in general, please stop in, call or visit our website!
