Wescosville Post Office Delivers with On-time Re-opening

The facility was closed Friday afternoon and Saturday after a car struck the building.

Come 9 a.m. Monday morning, the was re-opened for business.

The facility closed Friday afternoon after a car struck the lobby at the 1115 Brookside Road  post office and broke some panes of glass. The building remained closed Saturday for all services, but signs promised it would re-open Monday morning.

As the U.S. Postal Service's slogan used to say, "We deliver," and they delivered on that promise Monday morning. Packages were being shipped, stamps sold and patrons could again check their post office boxes for incoming mail.

When it comes to postal slogans and adages another comes to mind that apparently didn't take all situations into account: "Neither snow nor rain not heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Unfortunately, cars driving into the lobby will close the building for a time.

That inconvenienced some. But, what was good news was that the driver was unhurt following the accident. An unnamed woman hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, and the car lurched forward, hitting the lobby glass. The car was pulled away from the building and the woman was able to drive it away without her needing medical attention, according to Lower Macungie Fire Chief David Nosal.

By 9 a.m. Monday, the orange safety cones blocking the parking lot were removed and the lobby door stood open, inviting patrons inside. Plywood still covers where several panes of glass were damaged, but those will be replaced.

A postal supervisor working the counter said no one working Monday morning was present at the time of the accident, so she knew few details.
