Whiz Kid Gwyn Pacheo Kills Bacteria with Garlic
It's a useful skill for someone who hopes to be a doctor someday.

Accomplishment: Gwyn was a first place winner in the Region 3 science fair for the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. This region includes Schuylkill, Berks, Lehigh, Carbon and Northampton Counties.

Key to Awesomeness: Her project, “The Effect of Garlic on Bacteria Growth” was in the microbiology division of the competition. For her experiment, she “grew bacteria [in a Petrie dish] and then prepared different forms of garlic. I then tested to see if it could kill the bacteria.” In her results, she said some of the forms of garlic killed the bacteria, while others did not.
Gwyn’s favorite subject is Spanish. She plays field hockey on the school’s team, is a member of Junior Kid to Kid, is in the National Junior Honor Society and is a member of the Student Council. She also enjoys singing, dancing and acting in the school plays and is involved in the Pennsylvania Youth Theater.

Upon graduation from high school, Gwyn plans to attend Cornell University to study both pre-med and business. She then intends to go to Harvard University to continue her studies in medical school.
