Whiz Kid Justine Coleman Knows What Clean Means

The future writer experiments with detergents.

Name:  Justine Coleman

School:  Eighth-grade student at

Accomplishment:  First place winner in the chemistry category at the Region 3 science fair competition of the Pennsylvania Junior Academy of Science. This region includes Schuylkill, Berks, Lehigh, Carbon and Northampton Counties.

Key to Awesomeness:  Her science fair experiment was to determine how detergents, and the temperature of the water, affected stain removal.  “My experiment, basically, consisted of staining cotton pieces, washing them with different detergents and in different temperatures of water, and measuring the results,” said Justine.

She said some of the stains came out, while others remained in the fabric, and that temperature does, in fact, affect stain removal.

Her favorite subject is Family and Consumer Science.  She is the secretary of the National Junior Honor Society.  Justine enjoys swimming, sewing, listening to music and being with her friends in her spare time.

She plans to become a writer after graduation, but said she has time to look for a college.
