17 'Exceptional' Girls Honored Across Montgomery County

The Tribute To Exceptional Girls honors local girls for outstanding accomplishments and positive impacts on their community.

POTTSTOWN, PA — Numerous girls from across Montgomery County were honored recently for their outstanding academic accomplishments and positive impacts on their community.

The YWCA's Tribute to Exceptional girls program recognized 17 students in its 2018 program from grades 4 through 12.

Students were recognized in three general categories: arts, health and wellness and STEM. Three more awards were also given. The Corette Scott King Award for social justice advocates, the Rising Star Award for girls exhibiting leadership qualities, and the Mission Impact Award for a student who reflects the mission of the YWCA.

The following students earned awards:

Elementary/middle school girls (grades 4-8):

  • Performing Arts Award: Sydney Benkler-Iglewicz, a fourth-grader at Westtown School Junior Coretta Scott King Award: Leah Blackwell, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, Pottstown
  • Health Award: Saniyah Fox, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, Pottstown
  • Fine Arts Award: Lily Garber, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, Pottstown
  • Creative Expression Award: Madeleine Heidel, a fourth-grader at Rupert Elementary School in Pottstown
  • Wellness Award: Ciara Rios, a fourth-grader at Lincoln Elementary School, Pottstown
  • Coretta Scott King Award: Maya Evans, a sixth-grader at North Coventry Elementary School

High school girls (grades 9-12)

  • Technology Award: Bryn Hannah, a freshman at Coventry Christian School
  • Environmental Science Award: Emmerson Piacine, a freshman at Wyomissing Area High SchoolHealth and Wellness Award: Emme Wolfel, a sophomore at Pottstown High School
  • Rising Star Award: Taylor Gilbert-Fisher, a junior at North Penn High School
  • Rising Star Award: Emily Hart, a junior at Pottstown High School
  • Creative Expression Award: Keirsten Hickey, a junior at Pottstown High School
  • Mission Impact Award: Kasey Roberts, a junior at Boyertown High School
  • Performing Arts Award: Julianna Roseo, a junior at Pottstown High School
  • STEM Award: Courtney Burns, a senior at Spring-Ford High School
  • Coretta Scott King Award: Alyssa Dlutz, a senior at Pottstown High School
