2 Rescued In Lower Providence After Precarious Riverside Crash

Police said the vehicle was just feet away from a 100-foot drop down into the Schuylkill River.

LOWER PROVIDENCE, PA — Two people were rescued in Lower Providence early Sunday morning after an accident left their vehicle feet away from a precarious plummet into the Schuylkill River.

The incident occurred just after 6 a.m. on Station Avenue near Pawlings Road.

A vehicle lost control and crashed off the side of the road into the trees, coming to rest against a fence and some trees. Police said the vehicle was just feet away from a 100-foot drop down into the river.

Lower Providence Fire Department and Upper Providence Professional Firefighters responded to the scene. The passenger was able to get out on their own, but the driver remained stuck inside.

First rsponders were able to stabilize the vehicle with struts and chain tie back to a fire engine, authorities said. They were then able to loosen the driver's leg from under the dash and pull them out from the back of the vehicle.

Crews were on scene until about 7:30 a.m. to help the tow company remove the vehicle from the woods.

Both victims are recovering.
