TRAPPE, PA — For more than a year along the side of Main Street in Trappe, a large sign stood reading WE WANT DAVE PORTNOY.
Italian Delite Pizzeria and Restaurant's owner Giuseppe Tosco had also launched a lengthy social media campaign calling for Portnoy to visit and conduct one of his famous "one bite" pizza reviews.
It all came to fruition on Aug. 7 when the Barstool Sports founder pulled up unannounced to the eatery.
Portnoy also joked with Tosco, calling him when he arrived at the restaurant, as the sign calling for him to come had just been taken down weeks before.
"We pull up, no sign," he told Tosco as he arrived.
"You messing with me right now?" Tosco said.
"No, you're messing with me, we put it on the list, we built the trip, no sign."
Portnoy tried both the classic plain pizza and their famous Philly Dilly pizza.
The official "one bite" reviews are not yet in, but Italian Delite is optimistic.
"He loved them both, and now we're just as excited as everybody else to see the review and find out what scores he gives us," the eatery shared. "Seriously, thank you to Dave for coming out and giving us a shot. It was an experience we won't forget."
Portnoy's famous pizza tour has made several stops in Montgomery County before, including Vino's Pizza in Lafayette Hill (ranked 7.4), Tony & Joe's Pizzeria in Conshohocken (7.3), Campus Corner in Villanova (6.9), and Tonelli's in Lafayette Hill (6.6).
His top ranked pizzeria in Pennsylvania is Angelo's Pizzeria in Philadelphia, at 9.1.
