Marsh & McLennan Agency’s New England, Northeast and Florida Hubs Give Back to Families in New Jersey still in need after Hurricane Sandy
Food Drive Extended Until December 14 and Open to Public Donation
The Marsh & McLennan Agency of New England has always found time for charitable endeavors during the holidays. For the last two years, employees have participated in raising money to help local families in need during Thanksgiving. This year, as they watched televised reports of the destruction from Hurricane Sandy, the employees remembered colleagues in the Garden State and decided to combine efforts with the company’s Northeast and Florida hubs to support an online relief drive.
Through www.YouGiveGoods.com, Marsh & McLennan Agency Companies have set up a drive to benefit Lunch Break, an organization in Red Bank, NJ, which provides life’s basic necessities – food, clothing and fellowship, to community members.
“For this holiday season, with the combined efforts of colleagues and friends, we will help donate hot meals and groceries for families who have been displaced due to Hurricane Sandy,” says Fernando Rosario, Marsh & McLennan Agency employee and organizer of this and past year’s charitable efforts. “There are many people in New Jersey who will not be able to enjoy the holidays in the same fashion this year as last, and we wanted to direct our efforts to help them.”
YouGiveGoods, a company that helps individuals and groups to run online food and other relief drives, says the drive will run through December 14 and food can be purchased by visiting http://www.yougivegoods.com/2012HolidayFoodDrive. Anyone, employees or non-employees, may make a contribution. The site provides an opportunity for donors to choose the actual food that will be delivered.
“This group set a goal of $3,000 worth of contributions and they have already exceeded it by raising $4,285 to date,” says YouGiveGoods’ CEO, Patrick O’Neill. “That is 2,022 lbs. of high quality food donations that go directly to Lunch Break to help those recovering from the storm.”
Marsh & McLennan Agency employees report that the online drive has exceeded their expectations.
“This is our first time using an online platform, and it has proven to be a great way that people can actually select the products they want to donate,” says Mr. Rosario. “You can choose a case of a particular food and know that the charity is getting the actually product. The use of social media connections has helped to spread the word and increase donations.”
For additional questions about the drive, please call Mr. Rosario at (617) 587-2367.
