The “perfect storm” Sandy has unfortunately given us the “perfect’ example of why the Middle Interceptor should not be constructed in the ravaged flood plains of Arcola, along the Perkiomen Creek in Lower Providence Township.
Hurricane Sandy has demonstrated how a peaceful body of water can be turned into a raging life threatening force that can destroy lives and wreck havoc on the environment.
Ms. Janice Kearney in a recent “Out Loud” blog post not only attacked me personally and quoted many inaccurate facts, but she also inferred that the efforts of the Lower Providence residents and other concerned citizens to relocate the sewer line away from the banks of the Perkiomen Creek in Arcola are not sincere and that we really do not care about the environment or that there is even an environmental risk in the first place.

One would have to ask Ms. Kearney in regards to her ridiculous statement, how long she has been a resident of Lower Providence Township? How many heavy rains and hurricanes has she witnessed that have flooded the residents back yards in Arcola? Haven’t you been paying attention Ms. Kearney?
Well thanks to hurricane Sandy, Ms. Kearney has been proven wrong once again and that “LOUD doesn’t mean right”.

Ms. Kearney has resorted to labeling the residents of Lower Providence as “NIMBY’S”, which stands for; “Not In My Back Yard”.
Well Ms. Kearney, to your accusations we would like to salute you with an emphatic, HELL YES we are NIMBYS!.. But not for the reasons you have accused us of.
The dangerous common sense environmental consequences that could result from sewage lines in this area are obvious
So why then Ms Kearney would you endorse putting 10-15 new manholes in a known severe flood way, that if compromised would permeate not only our back yards and homes, but all the homes and yards of everyone downstream, including your drinking water!
Please Ms. Kearney, become involved with your own community and stand up for your own township’s residents for once instead of always siding against us!
Sincerely,
Catherine Beyer
