Walk to School Day on Wednesday was a success despite the damp! Fortunately it was just foggy and didn't rain during the walk. A terrific time was had by all, especially with the specially designed "Walking Bus"! We started out the half mile walk with 7 kids and had 2 more join us along the way. It was fun!
The goal is to get more kids walking to school regularly, so we always welcome other walkers along our route. If you want to join us and walk instead of bus to school, we start at Ashwood and Park at 8:30a.m., go up Ashwood, along Miami Avenue, and down Woodland Avenue. It takes about 15 minutes to just walk, but we often stop to look at interesting things along the way.
One reason that kids take the bus, even when they live close to school, is because they think that it's fun to take the bus. When children try walking to school, they find that walking is fun, too, and often the kids find out that they prefer to walk. Sometimes all it takes is to ease into it. Try walking to school, and taking the bus home. The parent gets more excercise also, and sometimes you find that it creates a high quality time with your child out in the fresh air.

There are other walking schoolbuses going to Woodland elementary that your child can join, with or without parent - or you can start your own! Contact me for more information.
