'Collegeville Police Assoc.' Scammers Asking For Money, Cops Warn

Scammers pretending to be with something called the "Collegeville Police Association" are calling around town asking for money.

COLLEGEVILLE, PA — Another day, another scam brought to light in the Montgomery County area.

Scammers pretending to be with something called the "Collegeville Police Association" are calling around town asking for donations.

Police issued a statement on Tuesday saying that no such association exists.

"If you receive one of these calls please do not engage the caller in a conversation and hang-up immediately," police said. "The Collegeville Borough Police Department will never call asking for donations."

Its only the latest in a string of phone scams that have hit the surrounding area. Scams from fake cops threatening a court summons or arrest if payment is not made are common. In one case, the police chief in Lower Pottsgrove even received a similar call.

Residents are reminded to be aware of such scams and to inform family members and friends that may at risk of falling victim.
