Collegeville Post Office Boxes Broken Into Overnight; Cancel Checks, Police Say

COLLEGEVILLE, PA — Both blue collection boxes outside the Collegeville Post Office were broken into overnight, police said Monday morning.

The incident occurred at some point before 8 a.m. at the location on West Third Avenue.

Police said that any mail dropped in the boxes between 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 27 and Monday morning at 8 a.m. is gone.

"We strongly encourage you to cancel the checks and issue new checks to prevent fraud to your account," Collegeville Police said in a statement. "We ask that you monitor your checking accounts and if you suspect any fraud to your account contact your local police department to file an incident report with them."

The US Postal Inspection Service is investigating the incident.
