Dr. Jim Karustis to Discuss “Keeping the Peace: Strategies for Healthy Family Communication” at Montgomery School

Chester Springs, PA - On Thursday, April 4, Montgomery School will host Dr. Jim Karustis, licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist, to discuss “Keeping the Peace: Strategies for Healthy Family Communication.” This event is free and open to the public.
Dr. Jim will lead a discussion about the core aspects of family communication, with special emphasis on taking stock of your current parenting habits, working together, adapting, and being as clear and explicit as possible with one another. Particular focus will be placed on enhancing closeness and appropriate hierarchy in the family.

• Maintaining ‘functional’ family systems
• Giving effective commands and requests

• Entitlements and privileges in the family
• When and how to negotiate
• How to enjoy conflicts and put tantrums and complaints in their proper places

• How to know what your kids need

Dr. Jim Karustis is a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist. Before settling in Downingtown he served on the faculty of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, as well as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Besides his busy family therapy practice, Dr. Jim spends a great deal of time consulting in schools. He is the author or co-author of more than 100 articles and books, including Guilford Press’s Homework Success for Children with ADHD. You may also know him from his Daily Local News column, “The Family Way with Dr. Jim.” His book On Being a Parent and STILL Being Happy includes much focus on the topic: Communication and Negotiation in the Family. Jim and Lucinda Karustis are also part of the Montgomery School community, and are the parents of two Montgomery daughters.
