SHOW DESCRIPTIONS:
Drinking Gourd
(Target audience ages 10 and up)
In recognition of Black History Month, we follow a slave family in their journey to freedom. Slave children practiced a secret song that included directions for the Underground Railroad. Journey with us as we follow their trail to the Drinking Gourd. Included with this presentation is a night sky orientation of northern circumpolar stars.
Celestial Highlights
(Target audience ages 10 and up)
This astronomical “Tour de Force” was the leading presentation at the Hayden Planetarium in New York’s American Museum of Natural History for over 25 years. We will use the current constellations to find visible planets and deep space objects visible through the current season. Public star viewing afterward sky conditions/weather permitting.
Molecularium
(Target audience ages 5 and up)
A planetarium full-dome digital presentation targeted for younger audiences and families. The Molecularium is an amazing ship that can speed up or slow down time, as well as change sizes to observe the universe at the atomic level. Join Oxy, Hydro, and Hydra for this animated adventure through time and space.
Two Small Pieces of Glass
(Target audience ages 10 and up)
Two Small Pieces of Glass traces the history of the telescope from Galileo’s modifications to a child’s spyglass—using two small pieces of glass—to the launch of NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope and the future of astronomy. It explores the wonder and discovery made by astronomers throughout the last 400 years. While looking through the astronomer’s telescope, the students, along with the planetarium audience, explore the Galilean Moons, Saturn’s rings, and spiral structure of galaxies.
Little Star that Could
(Target audience ages 5 and up)
Follow Little Star, an average star in search of a planet of his own to protect and warm. Along the way, he meets other stars, learns what makes each star special, and discovers that stars combine to form star clusters and galaxies.
Dynamic Earth
(Target audience ages 10 and up)
An award winning Planetarium full dome digital presentation that is targeted for ages 11 and up. Dynamic Earth explores the inner workings of Earth’s climate system. This cutting edge production follows a trail of energy that flows from the sun to the interlocking systems that shape our climate, the atmosphere, oceans and the biosphere. Audiences will ride along on swirling ocean and wind currents, dive into the heart of a monster hurricane and fly into broiling volcanoes.
