Methacton Students Launch 'Bring Your Own Cup' Petition
Methacton students have launched a petition urging the administration to allow them to bring in their own coffee mugs to reduce waste.

EAGLEVILLE, PA — Hundreds of Methacton students and community members have signed a petition urging the administration to allow them to bring in their own lidded travel mugs to reduce plastic waste.
The petition, launched on Change.org, had 299 supporters as of late Monday morning.
According to petition organizer Ben Cunningham, the school produces roughly 774 pound of coffee cup waste per year.

"One easy solution to this problem is allowing Methacton High School Students to bring in their own tumblers and lidded travel mugs," Cunningham wrote.
The school sells coffee, hot chocolate, and tea in plastic cups in their cafeteria. The petition does not ask for a ban on plastic, but rather asks for permission to use permament lidded cups.

Supporters include present students, alumni, and others in the school district's community.
"This is the right thing to do," one supporter commented.
"We need to help to reduce the huge amount of waste we have."
"This makes perfect sense, puts responsibility in the hands of students, and cuts down dramatically on waste and spills, as long as the container is lidded and has a spill deterrent lock on the top."
Patch has reached out to Methacton School District for comment on the petition.
